3 DAYS TO GO!!!!! Ok so a few pts to make before I reveal my team firstly it was selected from the 110 greatest players that BBC Sport selected and secondly it skewed towards more recent players as it’s easier to rate players you’ve seen live. So here it is:

Buffon ITA

Roberto Carlos BRA Moore ENG Beckenbauer GER Carlos Alberto BRA

Zidane FRA Iniesta SPA Charlton ENG

Pele BRA Ronaldo BRA Maradona ARG

GK: Gianluigi Buffon ITA – This was a toughie as I play as a keeper myself and I was torn between the 3 best keepers of the last 3 WCs. Kahn, Buffon, and Casillas. Kahn won the Golden Ball in 02 and was supreme throughout but his 2 mistakes in the final ruled him out for me. Casillas has been the best keeper in the world for the last few years but I had to go for Buffon he was my idol for years and in 06 he was incredible only conceding twice, one being an own goal.

RB: Roberto Carlos BRA – No brainer. The greatest right back ever and probably the greatest free kick taker too

CB: Bobby Moore ENG – England’s world cup winning captain. He played for my team Fulham, and he wasn’t a half bad CB either, a calm ball playing defender the Jairzinho tackle in 1970 an exemplar of his greatness.

CB: Franz Beckenbauer GER – Another all time great. He played as a sweeper, he could play both defence and midfield, he scored goals and he won the World Cup as a player in 1974 and a manager in 1990 making him player-manager for this XI

LB: Carlos Alberto BRA – An archetype of the Brazillian marauding full-back. He just edged in ahead of Cafu mainly for the 1970 goal.

MF: Zinedine Zidane FRA – Simply brilliant. Without him France would never of even reached a WC Final let alone won the thing. The greatest player of his generation, there was nothing he could not do. France 98 he was superb and in Germany 06 he single handedly dragged France to the final. Even his headbutts had a sense of occasion.

MF: Andres Iniesta SPA – Well one of Xavi and Iniesta had to be here. They always come in a pair but Iniesta’s just that little bettter for me with attacking runs. Key to the 2010 WC victory, Iniesta played the kind of Messi role in Spain’s Barcelona style tika-taka system culminating in his final winner. The best player in one of the greatest international sides the world has ever seen.

MF: Bobby Charlton ENG – England’s all time top goalscorer. A long range goal specialist, Charlton was unstoppable in 1966 and unquestionably England’s greatest ever player.

FW: Pele BRA – The greatest footballer ever NUFF SAID. 3 World Cups.

FW: Maradona – The 2nd greatest ever NUFF SAID. Won the 1986 World Cup on his own, almost repeated the trick in 1990 and in 1994 well his goal celebration was interesting.

FW: Ronaldo BRA – This was probably my hardest decision of the XI, I wanted Cruyff in the team but I had to have a back 4, and I wanted to have a genuine centre-forward with Pele and Maradona, so Muller, Ronaldo, Lineker and Roger Milla were who I considered, after ruling out Lineker and Milla it was down to Muller and Ronaldo and I saw Ronaldo at his pomp so he was in, helps that he’s the all time World Cup record goalscorer as well.
